Boss won’t shy away from tough decisions

-

Jay Saunders is prepared to make himself unpopular to keep Maidstone in the National League. Vas Karagiannis, James Rogers and Harry Phipps didn’t even make the squad for Stones’ 4-2 win over Chester as boss Saunders took some tough decisions. Karagiannis has since moved on loan to Welling but Stones quickly added more competition by signing centre-half Magnus Okuonghae. Saunders said: “I don’t think I’ve had anyone sat in the stands all season. “Now all of a sudden we’ve got choices to make and I’m not going to please everyone. “I don’t like upsetting people but at the same time my priority is to try and keep us in the league, and I’ll pick whatever side and whatever squad I think will do that for us. “I know it’s frustrating for players but it’s a squad game. “It’s one of them where we’ve just got to worry about picking up points and unfortunately along the way you are going to upset one or two.” Anyone who doesn’t like it is free to leave. Saunders added: “I don’t want people who are going to sulk and not get involved. It rubs off on others. “We’ve always had a good dressing room and a good bunch of boys. People have got to buy into that or we move them out.”
