In­quest up­dates

Three in­quests are ex­pected to re­sume in the town next week. The coro­ner will de­ter­mine the cir­cum­stances around MaryJane Thur­good’s death af­ter an ear­lier hear­ing was told the 52-year-old died in De­cem­ber of al­co­hol and drug poi­son­ing. A post-mortem found large quan­ti­ties of drink, an an­tide­pres­sant and epilepsy drug in her sys­tem. An in­quest will re­sume at the Arch­bishop’s Palace, Mill Street, on Mon­day. The hear­ing for 48-year-old Maid­stone man Paul Mealin, who was found hanged in the town on Box­ing Day, is sched­uled for the fol­low­ing day. On Wed­nes­day, Peter Brit­ton’s in­quest will re­sume. The 76-year-old’s causes of death were recorded as pneu­mo­nia, a frac­tured neck and heart dis­ease. He died at Maid­stone Hospi­tal.
