Marines on 1,664-mile challenge

Royal Marines on an epic fundraisin­g challenge stopped off in Maidstone last week.

The men and women from the Royal Marines Commando Units, Royal Marines Band Service and the Reserve Units arrived in Jubilee Square last Wednesday morning, and also visited Leeds Castle on their way around the county.

Their 100-day challenge will cover 1,664 miles in total. The Royal Marines were founded in 1664 and two of the group, Cpl Will Gingell and Cpl Thommo Thompson, are completing every day of the challenge, running 16.64 miles a day.

It is raising money for the Royal Marines Charity and will finish at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday, August 2.
