Memorial Service: There is to be a Service of Thanksgivi­ng for the life of Joan Hyde at 11am on Monday, June 26, with interment of Joan’s ashes in the churchyard. Please wear bright colours. No flowers but, if desired, a small posy of garden flowers. Following the service Joanne and family invite you to join them at The Horseshoes, Dean Street. Road closure: Because of works on an undergroun­d structure, BT propose closing Dean Street to through traffic from outside Timbers on or after July 2 for a day or until the works have been completed. The alternativ­e route is via Forge Lane, Vicarage Lane, B2010 Lower Road and vice versa. Please be aware that this is, also, the date of the next farmer’s market which will take place. Men@Breakfast: The men’s breakfasts at the Dog and Bear Lenham will resume on Saturday September 30. All ages: There will be a Family Service in St Nicholas church Boughton Malherbe on Sunday, June 25 at 9.30am. Tuesday prayers will be in Ulcombe church on June 27 at 9.30am. Messy Sports cancelled: Due to unforeseen circumstan­ce the Messy Church planned for Saturday, June 24, has been cancelled. The organisers are working on a programme for the autumn. 2018: At halfway through 2017 thinking about the Grafty Green calendar for 2018 has begun. The village hall committee is responsibl­e for producing it. Now is the time to search through your albums for suitable photograph­s which might be of village happenings such as extreme weather events or which might be a spectacula­r photograph taken by one of our readers. Do read about this in the June issue of Malherbe Monthly. Film time: There will be an opportunit­y to enjoy a film at the village hall on Friday, June 23 at 7.30 for 8pm start. Tea/coffee and biscuits included in the entrance fee of £3. The film is Manchester by the Sea. Casey Affleck stars as Lee who, following his brother’s death, returns to his long ago abandoned hometown. Church Fete: Join the Friends of the Church of St John the Baptist on Saturday, July 8 from 2-4pm for the Church Fete to be held at the Rectory Garden, Church Road. There will be hog roast, music, Pimm’s stall, books and toys stall, games, refreshmen­ts and much more. All welcome. Tennis time: On Sunday mornings, profession­al tennis coaching for all age groups is available at the Lawn Tennis Club on the Booth Field. Conference meeting: The members of the local WI will join forces with the Lenham group on Thursday, June 22 at 7.30pm at the Lenham Community Centre, for the annual district conference. Harrietsha­m members will contribute a Dutch display to the internatio­nal themed evening. Roll of Honour: The history society wishes to improve the access to the war memorial at the war memorial garden next to St John the Baptist Church. The gravel path will be replaced with paving bricks. The bricks will be engraved as a permanent roll of honour. The engraved bricks can be purchased for £20 each. Contact Peter Brown, chairman Coming soon: Following the successful Summer Holiday Fun Club held last July and August, the event will be available to join this year. Booking is required and registrati­on forms are available, phone 07812 555585. The club starts on Tuesday, July 25 and runs through to Friday, September 1 from 9am-3pm. Get active: Every Saturday (weather permitting) at 9am join the Family Get Active event. Meet at the Glebe Field opposite St John the Baptist church, Marley Road. All age groups are welcome to walk, jog, run, wheel, shuffle or support and don’t forget to take along your well-behaved dog to join the exercise. Rehearsals: The amateur musical society (HAMS for short) is a group of local people with a passion for amateur dramatics. It was formed in 2016 performing their first hugely successful pantomime, Cinderella in January 2017.
