News from around the county Father accused of daughter’s murder
A man has appeared in court charged with murdering his daughter at a caravan park and attempting to murder another woman.
Richard Kray, 63, appeared before magistrates in Medway on Monday charged with the murder of Olivia Kray, who was found dead at the Westlands Caravan Park near Herne Bay on Friday, July 21.
Miss Kray, 19, who was allegedly attacked at the park, has been described as a “beautiful young lady”.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, which is opposite the Canterbury Garden Centre in Herne Common.
Police arrested and charged Kray with her murder and the attempted murder of Damyantee Cowan, believed to be his partner, at a separate address in the town the same day.
She did not need hospital treatment.
Jade Blackmer, who went to primary school with Olivia, said she was a caring person.
She said: “She was very reserved and conscious of others. She didn’t smile often but when she did it lit up the room.
“It’s such a tragedy this has happened to such a young and beautiful lady.”
Kray, who is thought to live at the caravan park, appeared via virtual link from Canterbury Police Station.
Kray spoke only to confirm his name and address and the matters were sent to Crown Court to be dealt with.
Kray was remanded in custody until yesterday (Wednesday) when he was due to appear at Maidstone Crown Court.
