Char­ity show by four choirs

Four school choirs will come to­gether to per­form a char­ity con­cert. Set in the re­cently opened cen­tre for sports, tech­nol­ogy, and per­for­mance at The New Bea­con prepara­tory school in Sevenoaks, the choirs, who are from Leigh Pri­mary, Waltham­stow Hall Se­nior, King’s Rochester and The New Bea­con, will per­form Alexan­der L’Es­trange’s can­tata Ahoy! Sing for the Mary Rose. The piece is based on Tu­dor melodies, folk songs, and sea shanties, and the choirs will be com­panied by a small band of ac­cor­dion, dou­ble bass, drums, and vi­o­lins. Mike Piercy, head­mas­ter at The New Bea­con, said: “Mu­sic is a huge strength of The New Bea­con. “All the boys sing, and many of them play mu­si­cal in­stru­ments. “The New Bea­con Cen­tre has won­der­ful acous­tics, and the 250 voices will fill it with a lovely sound. All pro­ceeds from the con­cert, which takes place to­mor­row night (Fri­day) will go to­wards Pem­bury-based Hospice in the Weald, which of­fers care and sup­port to peo­ple liv­ing with ter­mi­nal ill­nesses.
