Fam­ily pays trib­ute to ‘happy-go-lucky’ biker

A hos­pi­tal cleaner has died 19 days af­ter be­ing knocked off his mo­tor­bike in Maid­stone – and may have been hit by a ve­hi­cle trav­el­ling the wrong di­rec­tion in a one-way street.

Wit­nesses re­port that Fred McIlveen, who was on his way to start an early shift at Maid­stone Hos­pi­tal, col­lided with a car head­ing down the one-way sec­tion of Ton­bridge Road.

Kent Po­lice say they can­not com­ment as in­ves­ti­ga­tions are on­go­ing and have reis­sued an ap­peal for in­for­ma­tion.

The 60-year-old’s fam­ily, who were by his bed­side when he died, this week paid trib­ute to the “happy-go-lucky” fa­ther and grand­fa­ther.

He had lived in Man­gravet for most of his life be­fore mov­ing to Loose.
