Petition launched to save trees

-

A petition has been launched in an attempt to save trees that could fall victim to a road widening plan.

In order to ease congestion along the A274 Sutton Road in Maidstone, especially with the extra housing designated in Maidstone council’s recently approved Local Plan, KCC’s highways team is considering creating extra lanes at the junction with Willington Street.

But the plan would require using the grass verge on both sides and felling a number of trees, which has angered local residents.

Linda Weeks, of Bell Meadow, has set up a petition to save the trees and find suggestions that will help planners refine the scheme.

KCC said work on the £3m scheme was likely to start in February.
