Pros­ti­tu­tion ring­leader is jailed

The leader of a pros­ti­tu­tion ring that booked ho­tel rooms in Maid­stone for vul­ner­a­ble women to carry out sex acts has been jailed.

Malaysian Hong Chin and ex-part­ner 44-year-old Li Wei Gao traf­ficked women into their pros­ti­tu­tion ring be­tween 2013 and 2015 be­fore po­lice shut their op­er­a­tion down.

Along with Chin’s then-lover Ting Li Lu, 47, from South­sea, Hamp­shire, the pair were con­victed of con­spir­acy to con­trol pros­ti­tu­tion for gain by a jury at the Old Bai­ley.

Chin, 45, made a to­tal of 92 ho­tel reser­va­tions through Book­ing.com at ho­tels across Sus­sex and Kent, in­clud­ing Maid­stone. A to­tal of 19 vic­tims, all from South East Asia, were iden­ti­fied and had to per­form sex­ual ser­vices for cash. CCTV showed the de­fen­dants es­cort­ing women to ho­tels.

The three de­fen­dants were con­victed of con­spir­ing to con­trol pros­ti­tu­tion for gain and con­spir­ing to traf­fic peo­ple for sex­ual ex­ploita­tion into the UK.

Chin was jailed for four years at the Old Bai­ley. Li Lu was sen­tenced to 26 weeks in prison, sus­pended for two years, and 50 hours of un­paid work. Gao re­ceived a two year jail term, sus­pended for two years, and 200 hours of un­paid work.
