Man arrested after death of 23-year-old
A man has been arrested after a 23-year-old died following a disturbance at a house in East Malling.
Police were called to Larkspur Close shortly before 7pm on Monday, where two people who reportedly knew each other were involved in a fight.
The victim, named locally as Richard Betts, was taken to hospital where he later died.
Officers were at the scene until Tuesday afternoon and arrested a man in his 40s from the East Malling area in connection with the incident.
He was later bailed to return to a police station on July 17.
An investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of death and a post-mortem examination is due to take place today (Thursday).
A voluntary referral has also been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), in relation to Kent Police’s response to the incident.
Mr Betts, a 23-year-old father remembered by friends and family on social media as an “all round top man” with a “kind heart”.
