Crossing shut as lorries crash
A crash between two lorries closed the Dartford Crossing in both directions and caused traffic chaos in the county.
The two HGVs collided just before 3pm on Tuesday, near the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge in Thurrock halting all traffic heading into Kent.
Later, traffic was also stopped in the opposite direction heading towards the Dartford Tunnel to allow the air ambulance to land.
The accident happened as the lorries were approaching Junction 31 on the M25 and left one of them on its side on an embankment. The other suffered substantial damage to its cab.
Swedish flatpack furniture manufacturer IKEA offered beds to more than 200 people who were stuck in the traffic close to their Lakeside superstore.
Police, medics and the air ambulance were all in attendance and the road was not fully reopened until 5.45am on Wednesday.
Essex Police confirmed both drivers were being treated for minor injuries, no arrests have been made.
