Applefest presses right buttons

Kent Messenger Maidstone - - FRONT PAGE -

Villagers braved the rain last weekend to make their own apple juice as part of an annual festival.

The event, organised by West Malling Parish Council, drew crowds of all ages to Macey’s Meadow, off Norman Road for a fun-filled afternoon.

As well as offering visitors the chance to learn more about the harvest, the fair featured live music.

Malcolm Doyle, chairman of the Macey’s Meadow Advisory Committee, said: “For the first time our annual Applefest was not blessed with fine weather but there was a good turnout in the circumstances, and the families who came still enjoyed helping to turn their apples into tasty apple juice.

“We also launched ‘Friends of Macey’s Meadow’ through which we aim to promote the meadow and to encourage more volunteers to help with a wide variety of tasks.”
