They may be decades apart but a group of pupils from Sevenoaks School have helped a 102-year-old celebrate her birthday.

Vicky Lutton was treated to cakes, candles and flowers by the group from the Thursday Club, who are participating in the schools Voluntary Service Unit’s community programme.

The centenarian, who was born in Ireland, has been visiting the school every week since she moved to Sevenoaks from South Africa 22 years ago. She was treated to an afternoon of entertainment and socialising organised by staff and pupils.

She’s now the longest-standing member of the club and said she thinks the secret to her long life might be genetic, adding: “I treat life as a challenge”.
