Drunk stuns shop­pers in tirade

A blood-soaked drunk show­ered a Maidstone shop­ping cen­tre with swear words as shocked school­child­ren looked on af­ter he was re­fused the sale of a knife.

Dale Percy claimed he had been beaten up out­side a shop be­fore en­ter­ing the Mall and try­ing to by a knife on Septem­ber 18.

The 32-year-old, who lives in a tent, was ar­rested when he car- ried on hurling hor­ren­dous lan­guage at passers-by and chil­dren.

Percy, of no fixed ad­dress, was given a con­di­tional dis­charge when he ad­mit­ted one count of be­ing drunk and dis­or­derly dur­ing a hear­ing at Maidstone Mag­is­trates’ Court on Fri­day.

An­drew Jones, pros­e­cut­ing, said: “Se­cu­rity staff had de­tained the de­fen­dant af­ter he had been re­fused the sale of a knife from a store.

“He told po­lice he had been as­saulted by a man and woman out­side an­other re­tail premises. He was de­scribed as shout­ing and swear­ing at mem­bers of the pub­lic in­clud­ing young school­child­ren.”

Percy added: “I had blood all over my face. I was an­gry.”
