Sym­phony orches­tra re­turns

A promis­ing teenage soloist will take cen­tre stage this week­end as Maidstone Sym­phony Orches­tra re­turns to Mote Hall.

Maxim Calver, 18, who was highly ac­claimed at BBC Young Mu­si­cian 2018 will be play­ing Tchaikovsky’s Ro­coco Vari­a­tions, which he per­formed at the com­pe­ti­tion.

He steps in af­ter Michael Petrov had to with­draw af­ter suf­fer­ing an in­jury. The con­cert be­gins with Ben­jamin Brit­ten’s pow­er­ful and mov­ing Sin­fo­nia da Requiem, writ­ten at the out­break of the Se­cond World War, and to fin­ish there’s Mus­sorgsky’s Pic­tures at an Ex­hi­bi­tion in the flam­boy­ant or­ches­tra­tion by Ravel.
