Symphony orchestra returns
A promising teenage soloist will take centre stage this weekend as Maidstone Symphony Orchestra returns to Mote Hall.
Maxim Calver, 18, who was highly acclaimed at BBC Young Musician 2018 will be playing Tchaikovsky’s Rococo Variations, which he performed at the competition.
He steps in after Michael Petrov had to withdraw after suffering an injury. The concert begins with Benjamin Britten’s powerful and moving Sinfonia da Requiem, written at the outbreak of the Second World War, and to finish there’s Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition in the flamboyant orchestration by Ravel.
