New toys come in two by two at Ark play­group

CHIL­DREN en­joyed play­ing with new toys at the re­open­ing of their play­group. The Ark par­ent and tod­dler group at Brabourne Bap­tist Church has been awarded nearly £6,000 to­wards new re­sources and ac­tiv­i­ties. Some of the money, awarded by the Lo­cal Net­work Fund, has al­ready been spent on in­door toys for young­sters. There are also plans for new out­door equip­ment in time for sum­mer. The Rev John Crew, of the Bap­tist church, of­fi­cially re­opened the Ark on Fri­day. The group be­gan al­most five years ago and now has be­tween 30 and 40 chil­dren from Ash­ford and the sur­round­ing vil­lages at its Fri­day morn­ing fam­ily dropin play ses­sions. Spokesman Ann Dunn said: “We are ex­tremely grate­ful to the Lo­cal Net­work Fund for en­abling us to buy es­sen­tial health, safety and se­cu­rity items and to en­hance the play pro­vi­sion for chil­dren at­tend­ing our group by re­plac­ing bro­ken, loaned and poorer qual­ity toys and equip­ment.” The Ark is open from 10am to noon on Fri­days dur­ing term-time. The weekly fee of £2 per fam­ily in­cludes a healthy snack for the chil­dren and re­fresh­ments for par­ents and car­ers.
