Benefit cheat netted £36,000
A WOMAN who fraudulently claimed more than £36,000 in benefits will be sentenced at crown court.
Patricia Cowie, 52, of Wotton Road, Ashford, admitted 11 charges of benefit fraud when she appeared at Ashford magistrates court on Friday.
She asked for a further 22 counts to be taken into consideration.
The court heard how she had been paid £17,870 in housing and council tax benefit from Ashford council and £18,720 in income support from 2000 to 2005. But an investigation by the council revealed that she had been in full-time work throughout the five years and was, therefore, not entitled to these amounts.
During this time she worked as a customer adviser at B&Q and at Orbital Marketing Services Group.
Magistrates referred the case to Maidstone crown court for sentencing.
