Horn soloist joins brass bands

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - SOUNDS GOOD -

TWO of Hythe’s top bands will perform together again at their fifth annual concert in St Leonard’s Church this Saturday.

The Hythe Salvation Army Band and the Hythe Town Concert Band will be joined by the Shepway Gospel Choir and French horn soloist David Simms, who is studying at Trinity College.

Concert organiser Cllr Richard Carroll said: “The event has generated a good deal of friendship between the two bands.

“Sometimes when you get two bands on stage an element of competition creeps in, but I’m pleased to say that has never happened.

“It is probably because they are so different – one is pure brass instruments, and the other a mixture of reed and brass instruments.”

The concert will start at 7.30pm and is free, although there will be a retiring collection.

Cllr Carroll said he hoped audience members would wave flags during the Last Night of the Proms section.

“I am delighted that this event continues, and I hope it will for many years to come,” he added.
