HOSPICE HELP: Barrow race bonanza

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - FAMILY CELEBRATIONS -

PUNTERS have been giving their pint pennies to a good cause as one pub handed over almost £2,000 to charity. The Royal Oak, in Mersham, presented the Pilgrims Hospice with a cheque for £1,800 last week. The money was raised through a regular Sunday night pub quiz, Christmas raffle, collection box and a Boxing Day pram race which raised £250. Licensee Michell Barden said: “We’ve been here just over a year and heard the pram race had been popular in the past so we decided to revive it. “Half a dozen teams raced round the village in prams and wheelbarrows. It was such fun that people are already making plans for the next one.”
