Drivers are not as bad as visitors
I DO agree with J.P. Blunt about the number of lorries parking on the Orbital Business Park (March 1). Since 2000, I have been campaigning to get it stopped. I note the gentleman lives in Kennington. How does he think the residents of South Willesborough feel when every weekend the area is turned into a gigantic park for lorries and cars? Yes, the lorry drivers do leave a lot of unpleasant mess around. But not nearly as much as the visitors to the market and boot fair – at least they use the bins provided to put rubbish in, which is more than the visitors to the market do. I do not agree with lorries using the Orbital Park roads at all but all the time the market is where it is, we will never get rid of them. What is needed is more people like the author of the letter to put pen to paper and write to KCC and the Government. Margaret Pryke, Canterbury Road, South Willesborough, Ashford.
SUNDAY lunchtime my wife and I made our way past a sea of parked lorries, to the French Connection, where we had a pleasant lunch. Afterwards we visited Topps Tiles, and as we were about to leave the car park, a vicious fight broke out between some foreign lorry drivers. Understandably, my wife expressed a desire to leave in a hurry. I feel very sorry for anyone trying to run a business in the area, as this sort of thing must put off customers. It is high time the powers that be stopped making excuses and took some positive action to end the menace of this unofficial lorry park. B. Christian, Warehorne, Ashford.
