ON TUES­DAY hun­dreds of peo­ple packed the Sea­far­ers’ Cen­tre, in Snar­gate Street, Dover, for the an­nual ser­vice or­gan­ised by the Bri­tish and In­ter­na­tional Sailors’ So­ci­ety and led by port chap­lain, the Rev Sean Carter. Peo­ple at­tend­ing the ser­vice in­cluded fam­ily and friends of pas­sen­gers and crew who lost their lives, plus for­mer Her­ald crew mem­bers. Fol­low­ing the ser­vice many walked to the Prince of Wales Pier, where wreaths were thrown into the sea.
