Course aims to help small businesses to grow
A COURSE tailored to the needs of businesses in east Kent is being launched by Canterbury Christ Church University.
Healthy Business, Growing Business, will be held in its Hall Place Enterprise Centre, Harbledown, from March 19.
Ninety five per cent of businesses in the county are small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and the programme aims to help them get fit for the future.
Put together by centre staff and Canterbury City Council’s local economy team, the course is aimed at businesses with at least five employees and a lot of growth potential.
The programme consists of six evening workshops, each featuring a local keynote speaker with a strong business background.
The workshops will cover topics such as finance, customers, organisation, the workplace, workforce and the future.
Bob Jones, the university’s director of Knowledge Transfer, said: “The programme is designed to address the real issues businesses face without trying to second guess either an individual business’s problem, or indeed, the solution to it.
“In partnership with the wide array of organisations operating in east Kent, we want to help businesses identify their problems, potential solutions and where best to find them. Partnering with other organisations has been an excellent process and I know that businesses will get a great deal from attending all six sessions’”
Dawn Hudd, the city council’s local economy manager, said: “Canterbury City Council is delighted to support this innovative approach to business in the district. We are committed to helping our local businesses grow and overcome any obstacles that are in their way. The Healthy Business, Growing Business programme is a key development in this commitment.”
The programme starts at 5.45pm on Monday, March 19, at Hall Place Enterprise Centre. Subsequent sessions are on the third Monday evening of each month until September.
Each session costs £25, including evening buffet (£20 to members of chambers of commerce, the Federation of Small Businesses and Hall Place Enterprise Centre’s own Small Business Forum. The cost for all six sessions is £135 (£108).
