SEWAGE has been spilling on to a pavement and road in Willesborough, to the disgust of residents at a nearby residential home. The manhole in Sevington Lane has been spewing out raw sewage since before the weekend. C’Ceilia Elliott, of Johnson Close, Willesborough, walks along the road every day to get to work at the post office in Church Road. She said: “I have to try to walk past without getting smothered in it. “It is going from the drain in the grass, on to the pavement and into the road and then cars are going through it and then driving that into the old people’s home.” Sue Van-Hill, who works at Sevington Mill residential home, says it is not the first time this has happened. She said: “It seems to happen once or twice a year. It is always coming out of the same place but no one seems to check on it.” Southern Water spokesman Leilah Nicola said: “We had a report of an overflowing manhole in Sevington Lane on March 11. Our crews attended and cleared the sewer. “It looks like this re-blocked again the following day and again the sewer was cleared. “Our teams are going to site to investigate the cause of the regular blockages and, if it’s felt necessary, a CCTV survey will be carried out.”
