Kentish Express Ashford & District - - JUNCTION 10 -

AMBITIOUS plans to recycle 40 per cent of all rubbish by 2112 were agreed when Ashford signed up to a Kentwide waste agreement. Portfolio holder Cllr Neil Bell told the executive meeting last week that the council was on target to achieve 30 per cent by 2010. Cllr Alan Allcock suggested they should attempt to become the best recycling district in Kent, rather than strive to have the tightest budget. Cllr Bell said: “We are the most rural borough in the county, so the cost of transporting waste collection is far higher than urban areas.” Council leader Cllr Paul Clokie said that highest recycling rates were achieved in authorities with wheelie bins and fortnightly collections but they were expensive to set up.
