Father stole to pay off drug dealer
A COURT heard how an Ashford man was driven to crime after receiving threats from his drug dealer.
Darren Owen, 27, of Clynton Way, admitted trespassing at Tyre Web in Victoria Road, and stealing four alloy wheels, three car stereos and cash on February 17 this year.
He also admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance on the same date.
Owen had smashed a window at Tyre Web and was picked up by police shortly after the offence covered in scratches.
Duane Bridger, defending, said Owen had been under enormous pressure to pay off debts from a cocaine habit and was being threatened by his old supplier.
Owen had started taking cocaine to help him cope with looking after his three-year-old son who was recovering from severe burns, but had now given up the habit.
Owen was sentenced to 180 days in prison, suspended for 18 months. He was ordered to pay £200 compensation and £60 costs.
