Athletes of the future get in training

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - OPINION -

CHILDREN at an Ashford primary school met Olympic athletes during a ‘well-being’ week at the school. Pupils at Kennington Junior School met triple jumper Julian Golley and gymnast James McGranaghan when the pair visited the school last Wednesday to show youngsters the importance of regular exercise. Other activities during the week included a ramble, making healthy wraps, circuit training, a bush tucker trial with different fruits and vegetables, a police safety talk and a ‘speed jump’ trial. Some 39 schools took part in the jumping competition, which involved children jumping up and down for 20 seconds to see how many jumps they could do. Kennington school secretary Carol Wigston said: “I think well-being week is an encouragement to children. “Making the wraps has encouraged children to try different vegetables they won’t normally try.” She added that the initiative had been running successfully at Kennington for a number of years.
