Free home improvements for over-60s
HOMEOWNERS aged 60 or over and disabled people can get help with repairs, improvements or adaptations to their home.
The new Houseproud scheme, supported by Ashford Borough Council, offers a safe, easy way to get essential jobs completed professionally and with the minimum of fuss.
Houseproud can also help pay for the work through a variety of loans tailored to the needs of older people and those with disabled people in the household.
The scheme is run by a group of not-for-profit organisations and backed by central government.
It is supported locally by Ashford council and the Ashford Home Improvement Agency, with assistance from the county council Occupational Therapy Bureau.
David Herrick, of the council’s housing services department, said: “Houseproud provides an opportunity for essential work to be carried out smoothly and in a straightforward manner by experienced and competent builders, utilising the most appropriate source of financial assistance available.
“It also enables qualifying owners and occupiers to retain their independence.”
