‘IT IS TOO LATE TO IN­TER­VENE’

JUDGES at the Court of Ap­peal ruled that the cou­ple had taken too long to chal­lenge the de­ci­sion. But they say they were not aware they had a case for ap­peal un­til De­cem­ber. Lord Jus­tice Thorpe said: “We can, with the huge ad­van­tage of hind­sight, see that the ideal was not achieved in the Can­ter­bury court, through no fault of any of those in­volved in this dif­fi­cult case. “Al­though I have great sym­pa­thy for the grand­par­ents, who im­pressed the judge greatly with their sin­cer­ity and ex­cel­lent mo­tives, it is too late for this court to in­ter­vene.”
