Academy show a stunning success
PUPILS from the Ashfordbased Showbiz Academy staged their Musical Madness show at the Woodville Halls Theatre, in Gravesend on Sunday watched by the Mayor and Mayoress of Ashford, Cllr Norman and Helen Ayres, and the civic heads of Gravesham, Cllr. Harry Smith and Mrs Iris Smith. It included excerpts from many musicals including Our House (based on the hits of Madness), Les Miserables, Billy Elliot, Sweet Charity, Barnum, Sister Act, Chicago. The Dazzling Disney set which included Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, Little Mermaid, Snow White and Pocahontas and Mary Poppins culminated in a We Will Rock You medley for the finale. Once again they received many compliments from professionals in the audience about the high standard of the show, and the pupils received a standing ovation. Patron Trevor Claringbold of BBC Radio Kent helped backstage and then spoke to the audience just prior to the finale saying how proud he is to be associated with Showbiz Academy but there was sadness that due to prior commitments their other patron Paul O’Grady was unable to attend. Principal Rachel Dickson expressed her pride in her pupils. Successful pupils this year include Francesca Sinden, 15, who beat off thousands to get to the regional final of South Coast Idol, Elliot Wood, who will be going the prestigious Arts Educational Performing Arts School in Tring and Sam Humphreys who will be playing the Artful Dodger in FHODS production of Oliver later this year.
