Fuel experts ride to rescue in crisis
TANKS EMPTIED: Firm helps out supermarkets as motorists suffer problems
SPECIALISTS from Southern Counties Fuels in Ashford have been helping ito resolve the contaminated fuel crisis affecting motorists across the region.
Workers from the Orbital Industrial Park depot in Sevington were among the teams called out last week to remove problem fuel from the forecourts of leading retailers.
Although not responsible for supply of the contaminated unleaded fuel, it proved a business boost for the company.
Chief executive Neil Donald said: “We have been acting as project manager for the whole logistics process of fuel uplifting.
“It is a time-consuming process.
“When fuel supplies are delivered to forecourts, tankers can unload 38,000 litres in 45 minutes.
“Uplifting is totally different and only around 5,000 litres of fuel can be removed from the underground tanks every hour.”
Employees were flexible with their working patterns to ensure that supermarket forecourts could get back to normal trading as quickly as possible.
Mr Donald added: “As an inde- pendent fuel company over many years, we have accumulated the experience and expertise to provide services outside our core business which are of a specialised nature, requiring flexibility coupled with high health, safety and environmental standards.”
Southern Counties Fuels supplies domestic heating oil as well as offering a range of services to the commercial and industrial markets.
