Restaurant re-opened by top chefs
A RESTAURANT which featured in the Channel 4 television series Risking It All has changed hands. Christopher and Karen Williams, who come from Essex, are the new owners of the 40-cover Blue Vinny restaurant in the picturesque village of Elham, near Folkestone, which was marketed for £475,000. It re-opened for lunch and dinner on Friday. The couple’s former restaurant, in Saffron Walden, was given Michelin recognition and had a reputation for good food, wine and service.
Christie First, which offers mortgages to businesses in the leisure, hospitality, care and retail sectors, provided the finance for the freehold purchase. Nicholas Baker, from the company, said: “Mr and Mrs Williams are planning to use high-quality, locally-sourced produce, including day boat fish from Hythe, and have an extensive New and Old World wine list.” The television series, which was screened three years ago, documented Steve Butcher and Lindsay McNally’s decision to open their own restaurant. Now, the couple have sold the freehold interest and moved to the Alps.
