Regime’s delusions of grandeur

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - OPINION -

I SHOULD not have been surprised to read in the Kentish Express that the chief executive of Ashford Borough Council was in the South of France at the Cannes Property Expo, showing off a £26,000 model of our town centre. Elected councillors did not know of this and have not seen the model. Then as a councillor the first I knew of the details of the now defunct Iconic building for a Discovery Centre was from the London Evening Standard. The infamous £1bn Imperial College Wye Concordat project, now also defunct, was kept secret from us for seven months and was never debated in council. Currently the £30m Ashford Arena is under wraps. Is this secrecy the standard of democracy the public wants? The delusions of grandeur of this cash-strapped but profligate council regime are breathtaking. What next? Cllr Peter Davison, Birchett Lane, Hamstreet, Ashford
