Fire crews cleaning up for a good cause

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - OPINION -

ASHFORD’S firefighters turned their hoses on motorists’ cars on Saturday as they gave them a wash for charity. Crews used their Henwood base as a car cleaning station to raise funds for the service’s benevolent fund. The event raised about £450. Station officer Lee Rose said: “We did well; after only 40 minutes we must have washed about 20 cars. “The fund helps retired and injured fire officers and their widows and their families. It helps with respite care, physiotherapy, bereavement and sends out hampers at Christmas.” The firefighters also had a chance to promote road safety, handing out literature that promoted speed limits. The fire station is holding an open day on June 30.
