Help­ing out earns young peo­ple awards

FAN­TAS­TIC NIGHT: More than 30 teenagers re­warded for their achieve­ments

ASH­FORD young­sters have been recog­nised for their achieve­ments at an awards cer­e­mony.

More than 30 teenagers gath­ered at the Ash­ford North Youth Cen­tre in Es­sella Road to be pre­sented with awards for ev­ery­thing from kayak­ing to first aid.

Se­nior youth worker James Win­ter said: “It was a fan­tas­tic night. The young peo­ple got a lot out of it and gave out the awards them­selves.

“Some were recog­nised for help­ing out at the youth cen­tre and oth­ers were recog­nised for de­vel­op­ing them­selves per­son­ally in terms of be­hav­iour.”

The evening in­cluded a dance per­for­mance by mem­bers of the youth club and ended with a buf­fet.

Some of the teenagers were also in­volved in a project look­ing at the at­ti­tude of sex­ual health clin­ics across Ash­ford to teenagers.

They dis­cussed their find­ings at a con­fer­ence at­tended by nurses and youth work­ers.

Any­one aged be­tween 13 and 19 is in­vited to join the youth cen­tre, which is based at the North School.

The club is open three nights a week and ev­ery lunchtime on school days.
