All aboard as engines roll in to promote steam special

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - OPINION -

STEAM engines will be driven from Sellindge to Hythe this weekend to promote the Sellindge Steam Special to be held in May.

Organiser Andre Double will be part of the team on Saturday. He said plans for the three-day event in May are going well and that more than 80 bands have been signed up to provide the musical entertainment.

There are also plans to improve the food for this year’s event on May 26 to 28. Andre said: “The Garden Catering Company has a regular contract at Windsor Castle and for many prestigious events. It will bring its famous green marquees to the show for the first time, serving deli sandwiches as well as coffee and waffles.

Other foods from around the world include Thai dishes, speciality German sausage, curries and of course good old fashioned fish and chips. But people will still be able to get a burger, there will just be a much wider choice.”

Organisers are hoping to have Europe’s highest bungee jump at the show and are currently holding talks to book the 125ft attraction.

The music line-ups have been completed with the addition of a folk tent this year.

Motorcycle exhibitors are wanted and should contact the show for details. Anyone interested in having a stall at the show should also call.
