FORMER Ashford Town Centre manager Rob Woods, from Woodchurch, has received a prestigious award in his latest role promoting Hastings. Now working as the town centre manager of the Sussex resort, he received the Association of Town Centre Management’s National Award 2007 on behalf of the Hastings Evening Economy Partnership. He was joined on stage at the award ceremony at the Institute of Directors headquarters in London by John Hough, manager of the town’s main Priory Meadow shopping centre. Hastings’ Thursday Late and Live brought late night shopping together with a diverse range of entertainment to encourage and support the restaurants in the town centre. The project had already won the South East regional award. To win the award he was judged ahead of 10 big cities, including Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Birmingham. Mr Woods said “Creating and sustaining demand for smaller town centres is much harder work than most people could ever imagine, so whilst this award may have catapulted Hastings town centre on to the national stage, it also says something about what can be achieved by smaller towns everywhere with limited resources.”
