Cycle gifts delight tsunami orphans
CHILDREN who are living in poverty and without parents following the tsunami have been given bikes by an Ashford-based charity.
The UK Friends of Galle charity, run by Devsiri Hewavidana, donated bikes to two youngsters in the village who have been walking four miles to school because they could not afford the bus fare.
Mr Hewavidana said: “The children were overwhelmed and wept with joy after receiving the bikes.
“I am surprised and delighted that a mere £20 donation could buy a new bike in Sri Lanka which may cost £140 in UK.
“We are very grateful to people who remember that victims of this terrible tsunami still need help.”
