Soldiers restore memorial

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - OPINION -

AFTER years of neglect, a war memorial has been restored to its former glory by Ashford volunteer soldiers.

A troop of 15 from the Territorial Army 133 Workshop Company, Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, based at Rowcroft Barracks in Chart Road, spent the weekend working on Lenham cemetery and the memorial on the downs above.

The site marks the death of 42 REME soldiers from Ashford who were killed in their workshop by a German V2 rocket.
