Kentish Express Ashford & District - - FAMILY ANNOUNCEMENTS - by Mike Bennett

MAGNIFICENT exotic blooms attracted additional entries and visitors to the annual spring show of South East Orchid Society in the British Rail club in Beaver Road, Ashford, on Saturday. With exhibitors from across Kent and from as far afield as Oxfordshire, plus trade stands of professional growers doing brisk trade, show secretary John Walters was delighted. He said: “There was a strong show of exhibitors from Ashford, Folkestone, Maidstone and Sittingbourne and the standards were first class. “We were pleased with the greater numbers of people showing interest and understanding that modern varieties of these magnificent blooms are not difficult to grow in homes.” With more than 100 members, the society is preparing for a major national show in Peterborough before returning to Ashford for the autumn show.
