SWEDISH bank Han­dels­banken, which has a Kent out­let, is one of the best com­pa­nies to work for, ac­cord­ing to a sur­vey. The bank, with a lo­cal of­fice in Maid­stone, is ranked 11th among medium-sized busi­nesses in The Sun­day Times 100 Best Com­pa­nies to Work For sur­vey. The bank achieved an 82 per cent pos­i­tive sat­is­fac­tion rat­ing from em­ploy­ees, with 81 per cent ex­cited about its di­rec­tion and 84 per cent proud to work for the com­pany. “We are de­lighted that Han­dels­banken ranked so highly in the Sun­day Times 100,” says Jonathan Wat­son, Maid­stone branch man­ager. “We be­lieve that em­pow­er­ing staff leads to im­proved ser­vice for our cus­tomers. By en­sur­ing the needs of our em­ploy­ees are met, through on-go­ing train­ing and in­di­vid­ual ca­reer de­vel­op­ment, we safe­guard the high level of cus­tomer ser­vice the bank pro­vides.”

Job shar­ing

The bank be­lieves in main­tain­ing a healthy work/ life bal­ance for all em­ploy­ees and achieves this by of­fer­ing flexible work pat­terns through job shar­ing and com­pressed and stag­gered hours. Em­ploy­ees gave Han­dels­banken an 80 per cent pos­i­tive rat­ing for not feel­ing un­der so much pres­sure they could not per­form well, and an 84 per cent pos­i­tive score for their health not suf­fer­ing due to work com­mit­ments. Han­dels­banken Maid­stone, is one of 26 branches across Great Bri­tain. The com­pany op­er­ates on a de­cen­tralised ba­sis, which means lend­ing de­ci­sions, ad­min­is­tra­tion, doc­u­men­ta­tion and client ser­vices are based at the lo­cal branch.
