Banking on being great to work for
SWEDISH bank Handelsbanken, which has a Kent outlet, is one of the best companies to work for, according to a survey. The bank, with a local office in Maidstone, is ranked 11th among medium-sized businesses in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies to Work For survey. The bank achieved an 82 per cent positive satisfaction rating from employees, with 81 per cent excited about its direction and 84 per cent proud to work for the company. “We are delighted that Handelsbanken ranked so highly in the Sunday Times 100,” says Jonathan Watson, Maidstone branch manager. “We believe that empowering staff leads to improved service for our customers. By ensuring the needs of our employees are met, through on-going training and individual career development, we safeguard the high level of customer service the bank provides.”
The bank believes in maintaining a healthy work/ life balance for all employees and achieves this by offering flexible work patterns through job sharing and compressed and staggered hours. Employees gave Handelsbanken an 80 per cent positive rating for not feeling under so much pressure they could not perform well, and an 84 per cent positive score for their health not suffering due to work commitments. Handelsbanken Maidstone, is one of 26 branches across Great Britain. The company operates on a decentralised basis, which means lending decisions, administration, documentation and client services are based at the local branch.
