Teenagers’ work is per­fect trib­ute

TWO teenage Ash­ford stu­dents col­lected prizes in the an­nual John Down­ton Art Awards for ac­com­plished young artists from schools, col­leges and youth cen­tres across Kent. Dis­play­ing a range of tech­niques us­ing oil, acrylic, paint, pen­cil, print­ing, char­coal, chalk and mixed me­dia, the art­work was fea­tured in an ex­hi­bi­tion to com­mem­o­rate the life and work of Kent artist John Down­ton and to en­cour­age and cel­e­brate the cre­ativ­ity of the county’s young artists. In the un­der-18 cat­e­gory the sil­ver prize of £75 went to Ge­orge Col­ley, 17 from Nor­ton Knatch­bull School, for his work called Al­ley­way. In the same sec­tion an un­ti­tled oil by Sian Samuel from High­worth Gram­mar School was highly com­mended Kent County Coun­cil Cabi­net mem­ber for com­mu­nity ser­vices Mike Hill who pre­sented the prizes said: “Th­ese awards rep­re­sent the wealth of artis­tic and creative tal­ent in Kent. “I am de­lighted with the stan­dard of ma­tu­rity and ex­per­tise shown by Kent’s young peo­ple.”
