Council doing a brilliant job

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - OPINION -

AS the representative for the Westrees allotment site – the largest one in the borough – tenants have asked me to write to you to express their overall satisfaction with the level of service provided by Ashford Borough Council’s allotments officer. As the site rep for over 10 years, my experience has been that ABC always exercises the utmost care before taking difficult decisions to terminate a tenancy agreement. I have not yet come across a case where a tenant has had their plot taken back without just cause. ABC will always delay taking action if they are told that the tenant has a good reason why they cannot cultivate a plot in any given year, for example illness, work pressure, family commitments and so on. If neither the site rep nor ABC are contacted then they can only assume that the tenant no longer wishes to keep the plot. ABC are aware that not everyone feels able to contact “the council” which is why a tenant can always ask the site rep to do so on their behalf. Jonathan Dance, site representative Westrees Allotment.
