Rename Ashford Cone Delight

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - OPINION -

RE: New ring road layout. Where do all the workmen vanish to? Have they been kidnapped by aliens and replaced by cones? Do the contractors know that their workforce has been replaced by robotic cones that seem to move under the cover of darkness, all on their own? On my daily excursions to work across Ashford, I notice that the disruption continues to grow and the only things that seem to move are the cones! Have they replaced the workforce which is noticeably absent, especially after 4.30pm each afternoon, I ask myself? Where is Ashford Borough Council to allow this town of ours to be so totally devastated at every entrance and exit? Perhaps Ashford should be renamed. Cone Delight springs to mind. Jenny Webb, by e-mail.

THE planners who devised the one-way system in Ashford must all be given medals. The new road network already causes unnecessary delays, such that the town is now best avoided if possible. Sadly, it would appear likewise once the new scheme is operational. Coming over the railway bridge from the direction of the roundabout prevented a turn into Elwick Road, which was beneficial to cars parking there at four in the afternoon, normally a space might just be available. It is well possible to understand the shops reporting a fall in trade. It is neither certain that any improvement can be envisaged once the new road system is operational. D. J. Wright, Hollingbourne.
