FUN FORMULA: Science helps pupils to turn detective

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - REMEMBER WHEN? -

FINGERPRINTS and dirty shoes helped pupils capture criminals. Youngsters from Ashford School and four Canterbury schools, tackled the challenges set by the Salters’ Institute, at its annual festival of chemistry hosted by Kent University. Lecturer Dr Stefano Biagini said: “This was a taster for these youngsters. One challenge was about using their chemistry skills to solve a case using residue found from a dirty shoe. The other saw students use their forensic skills to dust for fingerprints and find two suspects. “Chemistry numbers improved at A-level last year and we hope it will be the same this year.”
