Jobcentre staff out on strike
FOLKESTONE Jobcentre staff joined other civil servants in a strike this week.
Members of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) took strike action as part of a dispute with the Government over job cuts, pay and plans to privatise services.
About 40 members of staff from Folkestone Jobcentre formed a picket line outside their office on Tuesday morning before holding a rally in the town centre.
The one day strike follows another stoppage earlier this year. Customs and Immigration staff in Dover were also striking.
Simon Beard of East Kent PCS has worked at the Jobcentre for nearly 20 years. He said: “We were handing out leaflets and telling the public about what we were doing and most people were very supportive and understanding.”
