National gaze on foreign phenomenon

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - THE DAY THE EARTH SHOOK -

THE eyes of the country were on Folkestone on Saturday following the earthquake.

Earthquakes are things that happen in Turkey, the Far East or South America – not on the Kent coast.

Thankfully, while there was extensive damage to properties, only one woman needed hospital treatment. Many had lucky escapes. Others were extremely grateful to firefighters, the police and council officials for their help evacuating them, securing their homes and removing dangerous chimneys and brickwork.
