‘I saw bricks falling’

Kentish Express Ashford & District - - EARTHQUAKE - THE VICTIMS -

CANTERBURY Road newsagent Lingham Gnanascgarn watched bricks tumble past his window as Saturday’s earthquake shook his house.

Mr Gnanascgarn’s yard was littered with shattered bricks and his roof was left with rubble hanging off the edge.

He said: “I was working in the shop when I heard a noise of what I thought was some- thing falling downstairs. I went upstairs and saw pictures on the floor and I then saw bricks falling past the window.”

He added: “I took my children outside. Everybody else had come out. We didn’t understand what was going on.”

Mr Gnanascgarn and his family were evacuated to the adjacent Salvation Army centre, returning home at 7pm.
