Walkers enjoy their adventure on the wildside
MORE than 140 people enjoyed a stroll around the 1,000-acre estate at Godmersham Park at the weekend. The Walk on the Wildside event took visitors to some of the more remote areas, with Andre Farrar from the RSPB able to identify some of the woodland birds which make the park their home, by sight and by song. Estate manager Greg Ellis led the walk and answered questions at places of interest such as the Ice House, mentioned in Jane Austen’s letters to her sister Cassandra. Jane Austen expert Margaret Smyth, from Kent University, was also on hand to explain the significance of the site. Godmersham Church will benefit from the walk’s proceeds.
