Sweet treats are big test for hungry hounds

BEAGLES charmed visitors at a public dog show held in Brook. There was good support for the different categories, which included the companion dog show, working terrier show and lurcher show. More than 300 entries were registered during the day. The novelty scurry proved particularly popular, with Gipsy Tart winning in less than 24 seconds. The Ashford Valley Hunt organised the terrier racing. The fun classes kept the judges Mark Skilbeck and Richard Calkin busy. Bertie the labrador beat the Irish wolfhound, the lurcher and other labradors to win the quickest dog to eat a bun class by swallowing the cake whole, and then wanting more. The raffle raised £195.75 which will be split equally between the Wye Beagles and their nominated charity, the Kent Air Ambulance.
