A GROUP of slimmers from Ashford hope to raise more than £1,000 for charity by donning their running shoes. Some 20 members of Slimming World, from the Willow Centre and Cryol Road groups, are taking part in the Race for Life on June 24, to show their support for Cancer Research. One member has already raised more than £200. Slimming World consultant, Julia Males, is a keen runner after losing two stone. She said: “It was the Race for Life that got me involved in running when I took part in it two years ago. “It is fantastic that this year the race is being held in Ashford as many more people can take part. “I would encourage every woman to take part as the atmosphere is amazing and it is for a fantastic cause. “You don’t need to be a runner to take part, you can walk the course if you prefer.” The Ashford race takes place from the Julie Rose Stadium on Sunday, June 24.
